This were the Highlights from the last Program I led: Jan 24: Metropolitan Nature Park White-vented Euphonia (male and female) in a mixed flock by the unpaved side inlet left past the Ranger checkpoint at Mono Titi trail. (as far as I know, there is no record of this species here) Jan 25: Cerro Azul Rufous- crested Coquette at Birders' View Lodge backyard Stripe-cheeked Woodpecker in front of a house called: Mi Refugio at Altos del Frente Jan 26: Gamboa Hooded Warbler (male) by the beginning of the forest patch at the maintenance road past the Marina warehouse Jan 31: El Respingo/Los Quetzales Trail. Tawny-crowned Greenlet at a mixed flock past the first turn Rough-legged Tyrannulet ( zeledoni, also known as White-fronted) perched above ANAM checkpoint by the entrance.

The Canopy Tower's Carlos Bethancourt reports a male Hooded Warbler seen today, somewhere in Metropolitan Nature Park. This seems to be a good season for hoodeds, with males seen both on the Central christmas count (beyond the telephone tower enclosure atop "Renacer" hill) and on the Atlantic count (at the former Fort Davis.) He also reports seeing a single Long-billed Dowitcher yesterday morning, in with a flock of Short-billeds on the road out to the beach at Tocumen Marsh. The Long-billed was identified mainly based on its call. Also seen there was Stilt Sandpiper.

Marshall Iliff sent in reports for his three consecutive VENT tours to Panama. Highlights below: 2 Feb. Altos del María: 1 White-tipped Sicklebill, 12 Snowcaps, 4 Orange-bellied Trogons, 2 Spotted Barbtails, 3 Spotted Woodcreepers, 2 Plain Antvireos, 2 Black-crowned Antpittas, 2 White-ruffed Manakins, 1 Rufous-browed Tyrannulet, 15 Tufted Flycatchers, 12 Ochraceous Wrens, 5 Tawny-capped Euphonias, and two Black-and-yellow Tanagers, among more expected foothill species. Our one new sighting for the area was a single Brown Violet-ear singing from a high perch. We did not see this bird well, but I recognized it as a Violet-ear from its persistent single chip note that it delivered from a high perch. When we found the bird it was easily identifiable as Brown Violet-ear by its short bill and its brownish coloration with pale underparts without darker pattern or iridescence. Rosabel Miró sent a report of a trip to Rodman Ponds and the west bank of the canal.
