What a fantastic picture, Osvaldo!
I went on the same day in the afternoon with Euclides "Kilo" Campos and my son Daniel Reyes. Although he popped out right away,he moved so quickly among the branches that I had a very hard time seeing him clearly. I don't know how you got such a good picture! Great job!

I don't think there is any Golden-cheeked in this bird. The crisp solid black throat indicates an adult male, which means the back, crown, and eyeline should be solid black, instead of olive or black-and-olive flecked as in this bird. In addition, there shouldn't be that much dark in the auriculars. The color of the underparts in the first picture are uncertain but in this picture they definitely look like they have a yellowish wash on the breast. That might still be light reflection though.

It doesnt seem to match either Townsend's or Black-throated Green Warblers perfectly, but I think it actually looks like it might be a hybrid between them. Such a hybrid zone exists in Canada. Here is a picture of one, with a little more black under the auriculars than your individual but otherwise a good match:

Not to rain on the parade or anything, but when I first saw that photo I thought "black-throated green in bad light." It's certainly interesting looking, but to me the crown actually looks like it would be green in good light, and the back definitely looks green, not the dark or blackish back with maybe green feather edging I'd expect from an adult male golden-cheeked. One of the most troublesome marks is the apparent dark outline to the bottom of the auricular, which I think is very rarely present (if ever?) on golden-cheeked but which is always present to some degree on black-throated green. basically, if you lightened everything up on that bird's face, I think it would look like a standard male black-throated green. Just my two cents- take 'em for what they're worth :)

Perhaps Inca Terns are more regular than we suspect, but so far all Panama records have been on El Niño years; we need more birders up here. This bird was really close to shore, though.
As for the Galápagos Shearwaters, they all had the typical white underwings. And we were checking, hoping for Townsend's Shearwater.

Hi - very interesting! I saw an Inca Tern on the Galapagos a few years ago, first record for the islands and in a year that had a pretty normal water temp. Perhaps they are regular in small numbers to Panama, but it is a question of getting out on the water? I was wondering if the Galapagos Shearwaters seen were all the classic birds with white on the underwings. Were any of the birds dark on the underwings? There is an interesting pattern of variation in the Galapagos with respect to underwing color. Thanks. Alvaro Jaramillo.

Great stuff Darien. In the map I can see an area looking like a submarine canyon half way between Punta Mala and Piñas (other premier pelagic site), just south of the Pearl Islands... it could works as a corridor for transient pelagic birds. Other point of interest is the Burica Peninsula. We still need to know a lot about pelagic trips in Panama!

I forgot to mention that we also saw a Crested Caracara in Finca Las 30 in Changuinola. I live in Changuinola when I was 10 to 13 and never remenbered any Caracara. This, I think would be a first, record for that area.

Although I can't offer an opinion on what this bird is, I don't think that it's a Sabine's Gull. The bill looks too long and slightly curved for a Sabine's. Sabine's have a pretty short and straight bill, I would even describe it as "dainty-looking".
